Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! It is my
pleasure to work as your Superintendent in the Rochester Area School District.
We have made many improvements and strides last year and continue to move
forward in all areas of our improvement plans. We have hired a new
Business Manager and a new Buildings and Grounds Director to assist in our
improvement efforts. Our Administrative Team, consisting of Principals and
the Special Education Director, is closely monitoring the curriculum, test
results and student achievement so that we may provide the best, most equitable
education to all students in our K-12 complex.
I am pleased to
announce that we have made AYP (Annual Yearly Progress) for
another year according to our 2008-2009 PSSA results. Our students have
made substantial gains in Reading and Math throughout the K-8 grades. In
Science, we reached 83% proficiency for Grade 4 students due to our teachers
being trained in "inquiry learning" (Science: It's Elementary Grant) and having
the materials to provide hands-on Science lessons. In Grades 3 and 8, we
reached 89% and 80% proficiency in Reading. Our Math proficiency scores
range from 87%-64% in Grades 3-8. As you can see, our teachers, students
and parents are working together for excellence!
We have added an RCI
(Regional Choice Initiative) Cyber Lab to our Grades 9-12,
Math Coaches/Tutors to K-12, Spanish instruction in K-6 and a Fine Arts
Enrichment Program for 7-12.
It is with great
pride that we attain positive results both academically and in all
extra-curricular activities. Although small, Rochester Area School
District continues to provide a family-setting with an emphasis on learning and
instruction.
Thank you for your
continued support and we are looking forward to the 2009-2010 school year.
