Welcome to the Rochester Area School
District website. Our district has been making great progress in achieving
scores to meet AYP for the last several years, but we are constantly striving to
improve our whole academic outlook. We have expanded our programs to make
courses available in our new science lab, our gifted and talented program keeps
growing, and we are engaging our students to join the math team, the robotics
club, and theater productions. Our great football program needs little
encouragement to draw out students wishing to join the team! This also means
that the marching band and cheering squads have their abundant share of members.
We feel it is very important
to have student s become aware of the numerous fields of study that are
beginning to emerge in the world where our graduates will be working. We
encourage our students to take as many of these subjects as possible, and to
learn as many of these new skills that use technology as they can. Our ratio of
computers is approaching one to one, as we complete the next round of updates in
the upper grades. We stress that the jobs our students will do in their adult
life do not even exist at the time of their graduation from high school.
All of these efforts start in our elementary school, from the DIBELS reading
program through programs designed to improve basic reading, math, and science
skills. The elementary school participates in a state-funded, highly successful
program “Science - It’s Elementary”, to provide materials and staff
training to bring science achievement to a high level.
At the Middle School, students are urged to become more responsible for their
work, and their assignments reflect the need for them to plan, to present, and
to enjoy the process. Many activities and field trips are scheduled throughout
the year to expose the students to environmental science as well as to cultural
events, as they undergo the rigors of preparing for PSSA’s every spring. In
addition, a variety of tutoring services and outreach activities are provided,
with just plain fun activities scheduled throughout the year to keep students
interested in school and the healthy school environment.
